I’m not considering buying this, but it seems like a steep price to me.

I think that’s probably a fairish price. I’d guess those components would work out to somewhere around $16 00 new, probably a bit more , and they seem pretty new at least? And putting stuff together takes time . Of course, it’s quite possible the Windows is pirated, which would take ~ $100 off the component price.

On the other hand, some bad decisions went into that component selection. A 1060 is a fine card, but it’s not what you want in a $1600 system. Unless you have a very unusual use case, it’s absurd to toss in a $500 processor, and $400 (ugh!) motherboard, and then go with value graphics. Spend $500 on the GPU, $300, on the processor, and $200 on the motherboard and you’d have a way better system for most use cases, and some spare cash.

The only way the above machine makes sense is if you toss the 1060 and replace it with a GPU that is as high-end as the rest. But then you are talking about a ~ $2000 system.

You could almost have a Mac for that.

That’s a pretty unbalanced build with one of the most expensive desktop Intel CPU of the previous generation (which is basically a Xeon W CPU ) with a mid range GPU.

So in a way its not a shocking price as the parts are still quite expensive but if its for a gaming PC you can have similar gaming (and “casual computing” ) performance for almost half the price with a Core i5 or Ryzen 5, half the RAM, a PSU that has half (or even less) the maximum power output ; not to mention the terrible power efficiency of these CPU and chipset that are not made initially for desktop use .

Wouldn’t pay anything for a recent intel build, but some people like overpaying for junk (10th “gen” are closer to competitive but still, just but AMD and be happy) .

In all seriousness it’s not really overpriced, just a really weird build as everyone else has pointed out. Those are such high end parts except the GPU. I f you want a 1060 based system spend less. If you want to spend $1600 get something with better balance.

If you don’t need to activate windows (there’s no reason to pay MS for that hot mess when they let you use it for free), you can often build a decently balanced $1600 system with a 3800x and 2080 super, a better(+cheaper!) CPU and a GPU in a totally different league.
